Homebase worked closely with community partners and City of Missoula staff to lead our community through the process of crafting a collective strategy that is dynamic and adaptable to changing conditions. Homebase began working with Missoula in January 2024 and deployed a variety of tools and mediums to help guide community members, service providers, neighbors with lived expertise of being unhoused, and local government towards a strategy. Tools included: interviews, focus groups, a town hall, a leadership group, guidance on best practices, examples of models in other communities, and much more. This process was of and for the community and we're grateful to all of you who showed up to share your perspective over the last year!

Community partners across Missoula worked together to address houselessness under Reaching Home: Missoula’s 10-Year Plan to End Homelessness until it reached its lifecycle in October 2022. The plan, launched in 2012, was robust and included 10 goals driving how the Missoula community devised programs and projects to meet the needs of Missoulians who are unhoused, ultimately making instances of houselessness rare, brief, and one-time only. Upon its ending, JG Research & Evaluation conducted an Evaluation of the 10-Year Plan in partnership with City of Missoula Houseless Programs. The evaluation was completed and released to the public in March 2023.

The process to seek adoption of On Our Way Home is officially underway. Members of the On Our Way Home Leadership Group, which steered development of the strategy, are in the process of presenting the strategy to community partners in Missoula to seek adoption and endorsement.

In exciting news, we have our first adopting agency! Hope Rescue Mission's staff and Board of Directors reviewed the strategy and officially adopted it earlier this month. What does it mean to adopt On Our Way Home? Community partners that adopt the strategy agree to support the strategy areas and associated actions outlined in On Our Way Home and commit to considering these approaches within their own organizational and programmatic decision-making and design.

Adoption presentations will continue throughout the spring. Stay tuned for more updates.
