Consultation has concluded

Rules and processes around the subdivision process for residential development impacts the way that our community grows, lives and plays. It's time to update how we build our residential communities!

The City of Missoula now has the final Recommendations Report available (see Documents tab). The evaluation process has examined implications of local level regulations, including City Zoning related to the subdivision exemption process for Townhome Exemption Development (TED), as well as state level legislation.

Based on analysis of local case studies, national best practices and community feedback, the Design Workshop consultant team has provided recommendations and identified next steps to improving Missoula’s Subdivision and TED process based on the following key priorities:

Key Priorities:

  • Consistency in process
  • Clarity in code interpretations
  • Balance in city values
  • Communication and educational materials
  • Policy alignment

The Recommendations Report is organized according to the issues identified through the analysis, and divided into three categories- Administrative, Code, and Policy. The recommendations are identified based on the time-frame for implementation and topical area and provides a framework for the City to develop a scope of work for future revisions to development regulations.

The City is committed to moving forward on implementing the recommendations that were received in the Report. As next steps are identified, and opportunities to provide comment and feedback on implementation items come available, this page will be updated to provide the latest information.

Please be sure to check the Stay Informed box in the right-hand tab to receive updates as this project progresses.

Thanks to those of you who participated and provided input that helped shape the Recommendations Report. We look forward to further engagement.
