Mount Jumbo Saddle Recreation Trails Plan Update - Project Background and Goals

Parks & Recreation's Conservation Lands Program is seeking residents' input to help inform an update to the authorized trail system on Mt. Jumbo, between the Lincoln Hills Trailhead and Saddle area (see map below). When finalized, the Mount Jumbo Saddle Recreation Trails Plan will direct decisions about current and future trail routing and development in the area.

In the past several years, Lincoln Hills has become one of the City's most popular trailheads, and many new "social" trails have begun to appear due to this increased use. A social trail is an informal, non-designated trail created by human foot traffic. Social trails have significant negative impacts on an area's key natural values, wildlife habitat and adjacent private property. Additionally, Parks has seen increased reports of user conflict around the trailhead.

The goals of updating the authorized trail system are to:

  1. Decrease impacts to natural values and wildlife habitat quality from social trails and off-trail use in the area.
  2. Increase user enjoyment and decrease user conflict on-trail.
  3. Address adjacent private property encroachment and trespass issues.

Residents will have ample opportunity to contribute to this planning process. Please view the project lifecycle at right for additional opportunities to participate in the plan.

In addition, we hope you will take the time to review the following project area maps and existing management plans:
