What was the overall goal and objective of Our Missoula?
Our Missoula was an extensive project that worked with the community to update Missoula's vision for future growth and to modernize the development regulations, one of our key tools for achieving this vision. Missoula had undergone significant change since adopting the Growth Policy in 2015. The City recognized the need to update its policies and priorities to be responsive to recent challenges. These challenges are things like housing affordability, equity, and climate change. With broad community involvement, Our Missoularesulted in an inclusive vision for how Missoula will grow in the future through adoption of the Our Missoula 2045 Land Use Plan, which in turn guided critical changes to the development codes that the City needed to take to carry out that vision, ultimately resulting in the adoption of a new Unified Development Code and Zoning Map.

Community Engagement
For this project to be effective, it needed to include meaningful input from, and involvement by, community members, business owners, landowners, appointed/elected officials, City staff, and stakeholders. Additionally, in order to better serve traditionally marginalized and underrepresented communities, the City worked with Common Good Missoula, not as a paid consultant but as an active community partner, on the engagement for Phase 2 of the project beyond our typical engagement processes. The City also worked with a variety of groups and individuals to ensure robust engagement in this project. See the Get involved page for more information on project community engagement efforts.
Our Missoula Community Advisory Group
The Our Missoula Community Advisory Group was an inclusive and diverse group that was identified to be representative of the issues and elements that the Our Missoula project addresses. The Community Advisory Group provided community perspective throughout the process. It was a sounding board for balancing policy development and implementation ideas from the various focus groups, work teams, and community members through the Our Missoula process.Click here for more information on the group's roles, membership, and meeting content. Recordings of past meetings can also be found on the City YouTube page here.
