Project Description:
This is the first set of amendments for the newly adopted Title 22, also known as the Unified Development Code (UDC).
The UDC has been in effect and being used by staff and the public for about six months (Ord #3778, 3/4/26).
Missoula City Council has directed staff adjust the maximum driveway widths in specific residential districts, requesting that the minimum driveway width be increased to accommodate a three car garage. This request is time sensitive and coming forward now so the change can be implemented during this building season. Other clarifying amendments have been identified by staff and have also been included. These include items that have been creating confusion for staff and the public.
This first package is targeted to the City Council’s driveway request and clarifying amendments that do not have policy implications. Additional amendments requiring more review and amendments addressing legislative changes will begin early next year.
The agency draft of the proposed code changes is posted in the documents section of this page. The draft ordinance will be posted on September 9th.
Project Timeline:
The City Planning Commission (CPC) will hold a public hearing September 16, 2026 and the City Council will hold a public hearing October 5.
