Streets, Sidewalks & Public Places: Updates to Title 12

UPDATE

Missoula City Council approved the following changes to Missoula Municipal Code Title 12, Streets, Sidewalks, and Public Places following a public hearing on October 5, 2020, with final consideration and approval on October 19. The changes are in effect as of November 18, 2020.

• New - Chapter 12.01, General Provisions
  • Authorizes the City's Public Works Director to develop and enforce administrative rules related to practices and procedures in Title 12.
  • Declares that violating a Title 12 provision or administrative rule related to Title 12 is a municipal infraction and, therefore, subject to citation.
• New - Chapter 12.02, Definitions
  • Consolidates definitions from multiple Title 12 chapters into this new chapter.
  • Ensures each term has one definition.
• New - Chapter 12.10, Right-of-Way Improvements
  • Updates code with recent changes to Townhome Exemption Development (TED) requirements.
  • Revises and updates terminology.
  • Moves design and construction standards from Title 12 to new Missoula City Public Works Standards and Specifications Manual.
  • Incorporates information from Chapter 12.12, Curbs, Sidewalks and Improvements.
• New - Chapter 12.17, Parking Facilities
  • Updates code with recent changes to Townhome Exemption Development (TED) requirements.
  • Revises and updates terminology.
  • Moves design and construction standards from Title 12 to new Missoula City Public Works Standards and Specifications Manual.
  • Incorporates information from Chapter 12.22, Parking Facilities.
• Amend - Chapter 12.28, Obstructions
  • Aligns City's sight visibility standards with nationally recognized American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) standards.
  • Increases sight visibility requirements to promote safety at intersections.
• Repeal - Chapter 12.12, Curbs, Sidewalks and Improvements
  • Moves relevant information to new Chapter 12.10, Right-of-Way Improvements.
• Repeal - Chapter 12.22, Parking Facilities
  • Moves relevant information to new Chapter 12.17, Parking Facilities.
