We're pleased to announce that the final draft of Missoula's Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails (PROST) 2040 Master Plan is now available for public review and comment. The PROST 2040 Master Plan represents the culmination of our 20-month planning process featuring extensive community engagement.

This comprehensive plan establishes our community's vision for parks and recreation services and facilities for the next 15 years, serving as our roadmap for future investments and priorities. Your input is essential to its success.

Share Your Feedback: Public Comment and Engagement Opportunities

We're offering three ways to provide input on the draft Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Trails (PROST) 2040 Master Plan.

Important note about the Future PROST System map on page 6.5: The map is for illustrative purposes only and shows general areas where new parklands could address gaps in service identified by the PROST. The specific locations and sizes of the parks are not detailed. The City obtains parklands through different methods, including direct purchases, easements, donations, and occasionally through larger subdivisions.

Attendees can speak with staff, ask questions, and share feedback on key initiatives like all-season recreation, hybrid parks, river corridor management, and expanded community access.   • Missoula Consolidated Planning Board (also referred to as the Planning Commission) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Missoula County Courthouse, Sophie Moiese Conference Room, located at 200 W. Broadway.
  • Missoula City Council will conduct a public hearing to consider adoption of the PROST 2040 Master Plan, as an issue plan amendment to the Our Missoula 2045 Land Use Plan, on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 140 W Pine Street.

    Act III Workshop: Shaping Missoula's Future Together

    Are you passionate about the future of Missoula's parks, recreation programs, trails, and open spaces? Missoula Parks and Recreation cordially invites adults 55+ to join us for the Act III Workshops; a collaborative event focused on designing a vibrant future for our community.

    Hosted by renowned writer, actor, and director Leah Joki, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the collective vision for Missoula's third act. Drawing on Leah's expertise and creativity, as well as her role as artistic director of Missoula's No Joke Theater, participants will engage in theater-based activities aimed at sparking dialogue, fostering collaboration, and generating innovative ideas.

    During this interactive session, you'll have the chance to share your insights, experiences, and aspirations for the future of our parks, recreation programs, trails, and open spaces. Whether you're a longtime resident, a dedicated volunteer, or simply someone who cares deeply about the well-being of our community, your input is invaluable in shaping the direction of our shared future.

    Together, we can create a vision that reflects our community's diverse needs and aspirations while ensuring that our parks and recreation initiatives continue to thrive for generations to come.
