Innovation Funding Round Overview:

The Innovation Funding Round is an off-cycle funding round activated to respond to community need for housing solutions now, distribute funds to projects that are ready to begin or are in process now. The Innovation Funding Round was approved by the Affordable Housing Resident Oversight Committee on August 11, 2021.

Funding Available:

$300,000 will be available for awards to invest in affordable housing projects in the City of Missoula.

The Innovation Funding Round responds to key opportunities:


1. Respond to community need for housing solutions now. 2. Distribute funds to projects that are ready to being/in process, outside of the regular funding cycle. 3. Oversight Committee determines reserve balance to award. 4. Inform the Annual Allocation Plan process. 5. Refine the application approach before the Unified Application in winter of 2022. 6. Test and hone the Affordable Housing Trust Fund Administrative Policies & Procedures as needed.

    • Rental education programs
    • Homeownership education programs
    • Foreclosure counseling
    • Centralized Housing Solutions Fund
  • Construction of Homes-Rentals & Homeownership
    • Acquisition
    • Construction
    • Rehabilitation
  • Preservation Programs
    • Small Repair Loans
    • Multi-dwelling Acquisition
    • Mobile/Manufactured Home Preservation & Infrastructure Assistance
    • Community Land Trusts

    The Community Development Division held an Application Workshop for the Innovation Funding Round on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 to discuss the process and timeline of applying for funding from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.
